ACTION ALERT
Last Chance to Support Funding Texas State Parks
The Texas Legislature is nearing the end of its current session and could soon be voting on important measures that concern Texas State Parks like Hueco Tanks and Enchanted Rocks.
How does this impact climbing in Texas? If the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department doesn't get their needed funding, the State may move some parks over to the Texas Historical Commission (THC) in order to cut costs. If they make places like Hueco Tanks historical landmarks, climbing access could be threatened. For more background on climbing issues in Texas and the recent Hueco Tanks and Texas Parks Funding issues, see www.accessfund.org/display/page/AA/57
In March, members of the Central Texas Mountaineers and the Access Fund visited a number of Texas State Senators urging support for parks like Hueco, Enchanted, McKinney Falls and Reimer's Ranch. All of these meetings were well received but Texas voters need to make sure that both HB 6 and SB 252 pass the legislature this session. See http://ctmrocks.com/ for more details.
Your voice is needed now to ensure that the Texas Legislature listens to the interests of the rock climbing community. See www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/ Address.aspx to find contact for information for your state level Representatives and Senators.
