The Access Fund’s Seventh Annual Adopt-a-Crag Presented by:

REI—Title Sponsor, GORE-TEX® Products—Presenting Sponsor, & CLIF Bar—Contributing Sponsor

The Access Fund is proud to announce that the organization’s seventh annual Adopt-a-Crag has been building momentum towards September and the beginning of the Adopt-a-Crag Celebration Season.

As the largest annual climber volunteer effort, so far this year 64 events have been registered to take place at crags across the country, with more events being organized every day! Adopt-a-Crag is the Access Fund’s signature event, a national commitment by the climbing community to natural resource stewardship and volunteerism.

Title Sponsor Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), Presenting Sponsor GORE-TEX® Products, and Contributing Sponsor Clif Bar are the Access Fund’s partners in presenting Adopt-a-Crag. “The commitment of outdoor industry leaders REI, Gore, and Clif Bar to supporting grassroots activism to protect our climbing resources and climbers’ access is outstanding and exemplary of how non-profits and businesses can partner together for a common goal,” said Adopt-a-Crag Coordinator Kristo Torgersen.

Adopt-a-Crag began in 2000 as part of the Access Fund’s 10th anniversary celebration. Now celebrating the Access Fund’s 15th anniversary, Adopt-a-Crag has drawn together thousands of volunteers for over 400 events over the years. Through Adopt-a-Crag events, climbers have built and restored hundreds of miles of trails, hauled thousands of bags of trash, and completed multiple conservation initiatives.

Adopt-a-Crag is the most wide-ranging initiative organized by the climbing community. Activities often include litter clean-ups, visual impact mitigation, trail construction and restoration, erosion control, and wildlife monitoring.

“Actions speak louder than words”, says Access Fund Regional Coordinator Kellie Rice, “and seeing volunteers pick up trash or work on a trail helps make other climbers really think about what can be done to preserve their crag.”
