What Eastern Utah’s Public Land Initiative Means for Climbers

For the past 3 years, the Access Fund has been representing climbers in a complex seven county public lands management proposal for eastern Utah, known as Congressman Rob Bishop’s Public Lands Initiative (PLI). For climbers, there is more at stake in this initiative than has ever been considered in a single public lands proposal.

Two National Parks Issue Plans for Wilderness Climbing

Last month, two National Park Service (NPS) units issued Wilderness Management Plans that provide detailed guidelines for managing climbing in designated Wilderness. These are some of the first examples of parks putting the 2013 NPS national-level guidelines for climbing in NPS wilderness into action, and are critically important because they will set a precedent for how other National Parks develop strategies for Wilderness climbing management.

Access Fund is thrilled to announce that it will be hosting an annual event celebration over the weekend of May 15-17, 2015, in partnership with Patagonia. The event, Solid Protection: Tools and Strategies for Protecting the Places We Love to Climb, will bring together climbers, pro athletes, advocates, and industry leaders in Colorado to discuss the role of climbing in the greater conservation movement. Access Fund and Patagonia invite you to join this unique event.
