We're looking for a Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team in Boulder, Colorado!

Staff Accountant

Access Fund is seeking a detail-oriented, spreadsheet-loving staff accountant who will help support and improve our financial and bookkeeping systems. The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting with the preparation of monthly financial reports, as well as the daily bookkeeping and data entry that supports the financial accounting, payroll, and human resource functions of the Access Fund. The right person for this role must enjoy a challenge, as the Access Fund operates with employees in multiple states, adding layers of complexity to payroll, taxes, human resources as well as day-to-day operations. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Finance and Accounting:

  • Prepare timely financial statements, including statement of activities, fund and restricted account balances, and organization and program expense reports.
  • Reconcile monthly statements and credit card accounts.
  • Process all payables, including posting to the online bill payment service,
  • Oversee posting and accurate classification of credit card purchases.
  • Create and track invoices for receivables.
  • Manage processing and reporting of bi-monthly payroll and 403B, as well as review PEO’s quarterly federal and state payroll reports.
  • Work with Office Manager to ensure accurate recording of bank deposits, perform revenue data export from Salesforce and/or Sage, and handle the subsequent import to QuickBooks.
  • Manage W2/1099 reporting and assist with annual financial audit.
  • Provide input and make recommendations on systems and efficiencies related to finance and accounting.
  • Create and maintain organization and program budgets in accounting software.


  • In conjunction with PEO, maintain personnel files and assist with employee onboarding, including benefits enrollment.
  • Support program and office activities as needed, which may include but is not limited to: charitable registration processes, insurance audits, and assisting with insurance claims.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Previous accounting and/or bookkeeping experience required.
  • High proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with Quickbooks, Salesforce, Sage Processing, and other accounting or financial software preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit industry and and/or knowledge of fund accounting preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptionally strong follow-up and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and multiple priorities.
  • Strong organization and planning skills, with an ability to set up systems and processes to streamline accounting and finance functions.
  • Enthusiasm for climbing and conservation are a plus.
