Events and Outreach Manager


Access Fund is seeking a full-time Events and Outreach Manager. Access Fund is the national advocacy organization that keeps US climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment. Founded in 1991, the Access Fund supports and represents climbers nationwide in all forms of climbing: rock, ice, mountaineering, and bouldering.

Summary of Position

The Events and Outreach Manager is part of the Development Team and plays an integral role in coordination of both development and program related events and activities, outreach strategies to drive membership growth, and volunteer recruitment and coordination.

High-level responsibilities include:

1) Skilled and organized planning and coordination of Access Fund hosted events

2) Managing and expanding the AF’s national presence and participation in existing climbing community events

3) Managing and recruiting volunteer ambassadors; and 4) developing revenue-generating strategies through event engagement

Candidates must possess strong organizational and time-management skills, attention to detail, and must be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute Access Fund fundraising events, such as the Annual Dinner, Banff Mountain Film Festival, and REEL Rock regional events
  • Manage logistics and marketing outreach for Access Fund events
  • Develop and drive regional and national strategies to increase event-related revenue for the Access Fund
  • Coordinate and execute marketing emails and other outreach communications for events
  • Represent Access Fund and drive membership at key climbing events and festivals
  • Review and respond to Community Event requests from Member Gyms, Local Climbing Organizations, College Outdoor Programs, etc.
  • Organize, build, and manage a robust volunteer base for the organization to support outreach activities
  • Develop innovative strategies to engage Access Fund members and the climbing community through events
  • Review and develop Access Fund volunteer Ambassador resources
  • Develop and track metrics to monitor growth, success factors, and results of various events using Salesforce and event platform. Work with the Development and Marketing teams to develop event invitations, flyers, landing pages, agendas, and other marketing assets
  • Work closely with the Development Director to maximize stewardship and cultivation opportunities, as well as revenue-producing opportunities from events
  • Develop and maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with our partners, community members, and staff
  • Write periodic volunteer e-blasts, presentations, and SOPs
  • Work with Regional staff to deepen outreach opportunities
  • Work with the Development Team to manage event budgets and support overall revenue goals of the organization

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's’ degree or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to work a consistent 40 hour week, with flexibility to travel, and work some nights/weekends as necessary
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience coordinating events
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Comfortable meeting new people, connecting with others, and speaking to groups
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology and an ability to use a database
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Familiarity with non-profit organizations and fundraising tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with solid time and project management skills
  • Self-starter, capable of taking direction but working independently
  • Knowledge of climbing and an interest in climbing advocacy and the work of the Access Fund
  • Able to work under pressure with tight deadlines Good at dealing with uncertainty and last minute changes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with events that generate over $100,000
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience with community organizing or working with membership organizations
