On-site in Breaks Interstate Park, Conservation Team Helps Build Out Approach Trails

BREAKS, VA — Conservation Team: Special Projects arrived in Breaks, VA the first week of April to support the area’s local climbing organization, Central Appalachia Climbers Coalition (CACC), in critical infrastructure work.

CACC put on another successful volunteer event with their annual Spring Breaks trail day the weekend of 4/9. Access Fund’s Conservation Team: Special Projects were on hand to assist with sustainable trail work on the Froop Chute approach trail. Breaks Interstate park generously provided free camping for all volunteers. At the end of the day, CACC gathered everyone at Time Out Pizza, a local favorite pizza joint in Elkhorn, KY, for pizza and friendship.

Posladek and Leihsing will remain on-site for the next four weeks. Aside from finishing up any work that remained from the Spring Breaks projects, they’ll undertake a number of bigger projects that build out sustainable access to a number of popular crags.

Breaks Interstate Park spans the state line between northern Kentucky and southern Virginia. The area boasts easy access to high-quality sandstone climbing in a gorgeous forest setting with spectacular views. Visit the Central Appalachia Climbers Coalition website for more information on access, guidebooks, and local amenities.
