Second Access Fund-Jeep Conservation Team to Hit the Road in 2016

Access Fund and Jeep® brand are thrilled to announce the launch of a second Conservation Team in January, 2016.

The two brands joined forces in 2011 to launch the Access Fund-Jeep® Conservation Team—a team of two expert trail builders and stewards that travel the country in a rugged Jeep vehicle providing leadership and expertise to help volunteers care for the health and sustainability of climbing areas. This first-of-its-kind program mobilized climbing conservation, and for the last five years it has left a lasting legacy of stewardship in communities across the nation.

“The Conservation Team has been an undeniable success,” says Brady Robinson, Access Fund Executive Director. “It has become clear that the sheer need for this team’s skills has far surpassed our capacity to deliver with a single team. With a second team on the road, we can greatly improve recreational resources for local communities.”

The second Conservation Team will allow Access Fund to take on more complex, longer-term stewardship projects in areas of greatest need. As the sport of climbing continues to grow in popularity, many climbing areas are in desperate need of infrastructure and multi-year stewardship plans to mitigate the growing impacts of more climbers.

“We need to upgrade our climbing areas in ways that can sustain the increasing climber traffic,” says Access Fund Stewardship Director, Ty Tyler. Both Conservation Teams will focus on working with volunteers to steward climbing areas holistically, recognizing areas of concern and addressing them before issues become dire.

This expansion is made possible by the generous support of Jeep® brand, as well as land management agencies and local communities who have recognized the value of the program and are willing to help defray its costs. This program model represents a collaborative partnership, leveraging public agencies, private industry, and non-profit efforts.
