Expert Panel

  • Jessica (Wahl) Turner, Executive Director, Outdoor Recreation Roundtable
  • Dr. Len Necefer, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, University of Arizona; CEO NativesOutdoors
  • Peter Metcalf, Founder & CEO Emeritus, Black Diamond Equipment

Gareth Martins, Access Fund's Marketing & Communications Director, and Erik Murdock, Access Fund's Policy Director, moderate the conversation.

Originally scheduled for June 4, this webinar was postponed as our nation reached critical mass following the recent murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. We are at a turning point, and the outdoor industry and conservation movement must incorporate the fight to protect public lands with the fight for social justice, not just as a reaction to current events but as a defined path forward. While the focus of this webinar is still centered on plans to expand inappropriate industrial development on public lands, underpinned just recently by executive order, we also reflect on what climbers can begin to do to correct issues around racism in the outdoors and provide some immediate resources to take action.
