Rachel Carson Adopt-A-Crag

  • 22201 Zion Road Brookeville, MD, 20833 United States (map)

Join the Mid Atlantic Climbers for a stewardship day at Rachel Carson Conservation Park! Volunteers will start the day with a brief tour of the bouldering area before heading out to the trails for erosion control and heavy briar trimming.

Volunteers will split into two groups to tackle two separate projects on the trail. One group will work on cutting back heavily overgrown briars using electric hedgers and loppers. The second group will work on drainage work/erosion control for an area of the trail (slightly past the boulders) that is habitually wet spot due to a spring. This area of the trail will need a re-route long term, but our work will allow the trail to stay in better shape until the re-reroute can take place. All tools will be provided.

  • Registration + Waivers: 8:45am

  • Brief Boulder “Tour”: 9:00am-9:15am

  • Project work: 9:15am-12:15pm

The parking lot has room for 20+ cars, but please carpool if possible. Waivers and safety discussion will be given in the parking area before moving to the work area. The work area is a 10-15 relatively easy walk from the parking lot.
